Digital signature certificate (DSC) is an electronic format of authorization and services as proof of identity of an individual for certain online transaction and filings. DSC are mainly used by the MCA (ROC), Income Tax Department, Directorate General of Foreign Trade, Employee Provident Fund and for E-Tenders in India. Digital Signatures are classified into three classes-Classes 1, class 2, and class 3. Class I Digital Signature is used for securing email communications. Class II digital signature is utilized for company registrations, LLP Incorporation, IT Return E-filing, Filing Annual Return, Obtaining DIN, DPIN etc. Class III digital signature registration are used for E-tendering and participating in E-Auctions etc.
Validity-Digital Signatures usually comes with validity of one or two years and they can be easily renewed once validity expires.
